NORTH JERSEY HOMES
Breast cancer survivors and advocates have banded
together to create the 2nd Annual Holiday House, a Designer Tabletop
Show to benefit The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen
for the Cure. The event takes place Dec. 2-6 in a 1921 limestone mansion
at 2 East 63rd St., New York City.
For Holiday House 2009, 21 interior designers will create tabletop
displays celebrating holidays and other festive occasions, such as
Ground Hog’s Day, Christmas and the Summer Solstice. Participants from
North Jersey include Diane Durocher Interiors of Ramsey, Barbara Ostrom
Associates of Mahwah and David Zisa for Greenbaum Interiors, Morristown
and Paterson.
Durocher said the theme of her tabletop will be the Winter Solstice.
"Having lost my beloved Aunt Flo and my cousin Nancy to this devastating
disease, I am proud to be contributing in some small way to raise
awareness and hope for a cure," she said.
"My own mother was diagnosed 24 years ago and did not have the resources
that are available today, thanks to organizations like Susan G. Komen,"
said David Zisa, senior Greenbaum designer. "It is very gratifying to
participate in Holiday House 2009 to further the good that the Komen
organization does."
Admission to Holiday House is $20, and tickets can be purchased at the
door or at SmartTix.com. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wed. through Sat. and
11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Children under six, infants, strollers and pets
are not allow-ed in the house. For more information, visit
www.holidayhouse2009.com.
The Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was
founded in 1990 and has raised close to $50 million to date. The
organization disburses up to seventy-five percent of its net income to
programs on breast health education, screening and treatment in the five
boroughs, on Long Island and in Westchester and Rockland Counties.
Twenty-five percent of its revenues fund national research programs. In
2009, Komen Greater NYC is awarding close to $3.9 million in grants;
$2.6 million supports 37 community-based organizations and three
hospitals that provide breast health programs to underserved women, and
more than $1.3 million underwrites national research projects.
